The Cook Book
A way of Life
Since we opened in 2003, The Cook Book has become more a way of life than a business. We treat visitors to our café exactly the same as people who come to our home.
Bright, cheerful staff engage in every aspect of the café-bookshop, taking great pride in their work.
The bar is a good place to sit alone or with friends. You will be warmly welcomed; there are papers to read and people to talk to.
The dining room is simply furnished, with 5 round tables seating up to 26 people.
Cook Book Coffee… an exuberant Australian told us it is “the best ever!”
Breakfast, including vegetarian breakfast, is served all day unless we’re really busy.
Tempting Cakes and More!
Cakes and scones baked for us by Julie Chapple include our favourite, dried apricot and almond; fantastic chocolate fudge, Bakewell tart that melts in your mouth and coffee and walnut that vanishes as soon as it’s made.
Cook Book breakfasts include fresh free range Cornish eggs, sausages made in St. Just, local bread … the list goes on!
Soup is one of The Cook Book’s most popular lines and varies with the availability of vegetables and the ingenuity of the cook. There is always a soup suitable for vegetarians.
Lunch-time Specials offer a selection of delicious meals, from home-baked ham, tarts, pies and quiches, Cornish cheeses, salads and other dishes, depending on the season.
Cheese Teas are a special treat – a home-made apple and walnut scone, a home-made cheese and herb scone, three Cornish cheeses, home-made red onion jam, a side salad and tea – delicious.
Our cream teas are a true Cornish feast – two home-made scones, a saffron bun, Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream, delicious Boddington’s Strawberry Jam from Mevagissey and your choice from a wide selection of teas.
The Green Cook Book
From our new roof, insulated with recycled plastic bottles, to our strict recycling policy, the all electric Cook Book strives to be as green as possible.
We source as much produce locally as is possible, including meat, vegetables, milk, butter and cheese, bread, saffron buns, fruit juices, ginger beer and elderflower bubbly. The majority of our suppliers are based in Cornwall.
And we compost everything we can!
The Cook Book was awarded the prestigious CHEFS Gold Award in February 2011
