1. August
August was a wet month down here and that meant we were really busy. It was certainly the busiest in the 5½ years since we opened. We could not have coped without the wonderful support of all our staff.
Thank you one and all, especially Jenny Stephens and Becca Vosper. On her marathon baking days, Jenny turned out scones by the score, cakes of all shapes and flavours, never once losing her cool, or tripping over whoever was cooking breakfasts, baguettes or soup alongside her.
Meanwhile, Becca organised us all with calm and quiet efficiency, even drafting in her mother and sister when we were especially busy. She looked after the ordering of everything that we needed to keep going, and always ensured that food and drinks reached our guests as quickly as possible.
Now the holidays are over and we bid farewell to our student helpers are they disperse to school, college and university. We wish you all good fortune and thank you so much for your hard work through the season.
2. Cornish Evening at The Cook Book
As many of you know, one of Jenny’s grandsons was born severely disabled. We have been raising funds to help him and his family for many years.
Harry “Safari” Glasson has very kindly agreed to give an evening of entertainment to help Kyran.
Jenny and her friends are busy baking, there will be a raffle – and we are sure this will be a most enjoyable evening.
Entry is by ticket as we are restricted in the numbers we can seat. We are asking for a donation to the Kryan Fund for tickets. Early booking is recommended.
3. Winter Opening Hours
Please note that our winter opening hours will be 10.00 am – 4.00 pm, daily from Tuesday 5 November 2008
We are staying open until 5th January 2009.
We will be shut on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
4. Winter Refit
We will be closed from 5th – 19th January 2009 for the annual refit of the premises and ourselves.
5. Banjo Cottage
We are now looking after Ellie’s beautifully refurbished cottage next door to The Cook Book.
It is a wonderfully well-appointed home with a fabulous secluded garden. It sleeps four in a double and two twin-beds. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
If you would like to book it, please contact Philippa or David James at The Cook Book, by phone or email.
